The Benefit Bank of Kansas

The Benefit Bank of Kansas is housed within Inter-Faith Ministries, an inter-religious anti-poverty agency in Wichita and is part of their Campaign To End Childhood Hunger (CTECH) program. CTECH works to improve food security for Kansas’ low-income children through advocacy, education and outreach. CTECH has developed a network of organizations, congregations, and community activists to fight childhood hunger, and is an effective voice for the hungry and malnourished living in Kansas.

The Kansas Benefit Bank has been assisting low-income federal tax filers for the past five years. Last year, The Kansas Benefit Bank brought over $500,000 worth of economic development income into Kansas communities. Currently, TKBB offers multiple benefit applications for food stamps, Medicaid, and HealthWave, as well as refunds and credits from federal and state tax filing. Later this year, TKBB will add low income energy assistance and child care subsidies to the applications it will be able to offer.

Within three to four years, Inter-Faith Ministries plans to expand TKBB to every county in the state, with a special emphasis on southwest Kansas where Catholic Social Service is a key partner. Currently, TKBB has sites in Wichita, Great Bend, Garden City, Kansas City, Atchison, Holton, Abilene, Chanute, Hiawatha, and Pittsburg.
