Overview of The Benefit Bank

The Benefit Bank is currently in use in communities in Pennsylvania, Florida, Ohio, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Mississippi, Kansas and Arkansas. Additional states are in position to come on line in the next eighteen months. We continue active discussions with state governments, civic organizations and philanthropic coalitions throughout the country with a goal to have programming in all 50 states. TBB programming varies depending on the state. It is determined by what is funded, applicable, and possible.

Core TBB programming consists of:
Taxes - Federal Taxes, including Earned Income Credit, Child & Dependent Care Credit, Child Tax Credit, Additional Child Tax Credit, Hope Education Credit, Lifetime Learning Credit, and State Taxes
Benefits - Food Stamps, State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), Medical Benefits, Child Care Subsidies, Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), and Voter Registration.

The Benefit Bank program will complete the forms for all benefit and tax applications. TBB will screen for eligibility for most benefits except TANF. For Food Stamps, TBB will also provide a dollar estimate.

The Benefit Bank will determine the tax credits a person can claim, including the Earned Income Credit and the Child Tax Credit. Clients can e-file their tax returns.

The Benefit Bank will determine the combination of forms that is most beneficial for each household. The agency/county/state providing benefits will always make the final determination about client eligibility.

Voter Registration is available for all states via the National Voter Registration Application
